Engineering Technician

Job Summary

This position is responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and standards.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Enable computer technology to meet the needs of the company.
  • Performs systems studies to assist company to realize maximum benefit from investments in equipment, personnel, and business processes.
  • Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing procedures.
  • Design systems, such as instruments to control robots, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
  • Coordinate projects, fabrication, operation, application and installation of electromechanical (PLC, SCADA) products and systems.
  • Develop project instructions, blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objective, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions.
  • Development and implementation of training of new processes.
  • May direct and coordinate work of others to develop, test, install, and modify programs.
  • Compiles documentation of program development and trains subordinates in systems analysis, feasibility studies, programming, and program coding.
  • Troubleshoot PC hardware and installation as well as software integration of systems.
  • Follows lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair, as well as following all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
  • Works closely with all employee levels throughout the company.
  • Purchase of personal tools as required by company policy.
  • Assume other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Could be expected to work extended hours if machines are down and the engineering technician’s talents are needed to fix the problem.

Skills/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Knowledge in electrical engineering, obtainable through a combination of experience and continuing education; or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with any or all of the following is helpful: SCADA Software (Lookout, Labview), Promise E Draw, PLC Programming (Direct Logic, Allen Bradley RS Logic 500), PID Set-Up and Control, VFD (Programming & Parameter Set-Up, Servo Motor, Controller Programming & Parameter Set-Up, HMI Programming (C More, C More Micro and AVG – EZ Touch), Omega Furnace Profiling Software HH800SW, electrical systems design and development, Hydraulic and Pneumatic circuit design and development, and machine and motion control.
  • 5-7 years of previous manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to read directions, job orders, measuring instruments (ie. micrometers, calipers), blueprints, and specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to communicate with other personnel is required.
  • Self-disciplined and self-motivated.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a long period of time, 90% of the time is spent standing.
  • Must be able to frequently move about the cell (work space) to access moving parts and machinery, etc.
  • Sufficient reading and writing ability to follow work order instructions and prepare simple production reports.
  • Manual dexterity to operate machines properly.
  • Visual acuity (corrected) to read instructions, operate machines, and visually inspect parts produced.
  • Frequently relocates metal parts and equipment weighing between .5 (1/2) pound up to 60 pounds at various times.   Finished parts may weigh up to 60 pounds.

Machinist

Job Summary

The Tool & Die Maker is a highly skilled position that is responsible for producing tools, dies, and specialized parts and devices used on manufacturing machines; especially stamping presses 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze print specifications, setup and operate machine tools to manufacture parts to specifications.
  • Maintains the maintenance and repair of existing tooling fixtures.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make and repair, jigs, fixtures, gauges and hand tools.
  • Setup and operate machining centers.
  • Builds and maintains stamping dies for production.
  • Designs tools, jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignment, and clearances of finished components using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Communicate with inter-departmental personnel for design input, fabrication and modification suggestions. 
  • Ensure timely completion of tooling, fixtures and assemblies as to meet project objectives.
  • Promotes safety and housekeeping and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.


Skills/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal training in an apprenticeship program, vocational school, community or technical college is preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of documented experience as a Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing environment with stamping presses.
  • Machinist experience will be considered as well.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, stamping dies or assemblies.
  • Ability to verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators.
  • Ability to fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Ability to lift, position and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates.
  • Ability to measure, mark and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes and rulers.
  • Ability to select materials to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerances.
  • Ability to set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001:2015 APQP process or ISO quality systems is a plus.
  • Self-disciplined and self-motivated.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

CNC Setup Technician

This position is responsible for all program development, improvements, revisions, updates, etc. to control machining or processing of parts by automatic machine tools, equipment, or systems within the Ace Production department.

    Job Summary

    This position is responsible to follow prints and specifications to set-up machines such as lathes, millers, grinders, and drilling machines according to work instructions and very close tolerances and to operate these machines for precision work when not setting up.

    Summary of Essential Job Functions

    • Setting up different machines as needed, running machines when not needed setting up.
    • Capable of CNC set-up of lathes, millers, drills and machine tooling.
    • Complete, accurate operation at assigned work cell to include:
    • Matching of job packet to job,
    • Control plans,
    • SPC sheets,
    • Insert sheets,
    • Proper gauging – progressive gauges, micrometers, calipers,
    • Proper machine guarding,
    • Job cards.
    • Completion of legible and accurate paperwork.
    • Proper ID stamping of all parts. Job task must be performed “safely and satisfactorily”.
    • Immediate communication with the supervisor to advise when job is close to completion, completion of job, part irregularity, quality problems, machine malfunction or breakdown, and machine not making rate. Standard rate of 85% is to be maintained.
    • Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
    • Sets up machines for less skilled production machine operators.
    • Assists lower-level machine operators to develop skills and to produce production parts to specifications.
    • Produces precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
    • Follows lockout – tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair, as well as following all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
    • Maintain work area in neat condition.
    • Purchase of personal tools as required by company policy.
    • Dependability to work as a team to include daily attendance, on-time reporting to work station, timely return from break periods and restroom.
    • Assume other duties as directed by the supervisor.

    Skills/Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Graduate of a technical school in machine tooling is helpful.
    • 2-5 years of previous machining experience, with at least one year of experience as a fully qualified machinist.
    • Ability to read directions, job orders, measuring instruments (i.e. micrometers, calipers), blueprints, and specifications.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate with other personnel is required.
    • Self-disciplined and self-motivated.
    • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a long period of time, 90% of the time is spent standing.
    • Must be able to frequently move about the cell (work space) to access moving parts and machinery, etc.

CNC Machine Operator 2nd Shift

This position is responsible for operating machine shop equipment according to work instructions while utilizing lathes, millers, grinding or drilling machines to very close tolerances and to operate these machines for precision work within the Ace Production department.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Complete, accurate operation at assigned work cell to include:
    • Matching of job packet to job,
    • Control plans,
    • SPC sheets,
    • Insert sheets,
    • Proper gauging – progressive gauges, micrometers, and calipers,
    • Proper machine guarding,
    • Job cards.
    • Completion of legible and accurate paperwork.
    • Proper ID stamping of all parts.  Job task must be performed “safely and satisfactorily”.
    • Immediate communication with the supervisor to advise when job is close to completion, completion of job, part irregularity, quality problems, machine malfunction or breakdown, and machine not making rate.  Standard rate of 100% is to be maintained.

    • Sets up machines under the direction of the CNC Set-Up Operator.
    • Is responsible for taking care of routine machine maintenance and keeping work area in neat condition.
    • Follows lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair, as well as following all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
  • Purchase of personal tools as required by company policy.
  • Dependability to work as a team to include daily attendance, on-time reporting to work station, and timely return from break periods and restroom.
  • Assume other duties as directed by the supervisor.
